Jaipur, founded by Maharaja Jai Singh II in the early 18th century, was thoughtfully planned to serve as a thriving capital for his growing kingdom. Recognized for his talents as both a ruler and an astronomer, Jai Singh carefully chose the city’s location to maximize trade opportunities and ensure strong defense. The city’s layout follows traditional Hindu principles, divided into nine sectors symbolizing cosmic order, reflecting a deep connection between urban design and spirituality. Originally called “Jai Singh Pura,” it was renamed Jaipur to foster a sense of unity among its residents.

Under Jai Singh’s patronage, Jaipur blossomed into a hub for skilled artisans, supporting crafts such as gem cutting, jewelry making, block printing, and miniature painting. Architectural marvels like the majestic Amber Fort and the sprawling City Palace—home to an extensive museum—offer a glimpse into the city’s regal past. Jaipur’s allure is further enriched by the remarkable Jantar Mantar observatory, the delicate latticework of the Hawa Mahal, and bustling bazaars filled with traditional handicrafts, making the city a vibrant tapestry of history, culture, and art.

Setting out from Delhi to Agra, the journey takes an intriguing detour through two remarkable historical sites. The first stop is at Abhaneri, home to the famous Chand Baori stepwell, an architectural marvel built from sandstone in the 9th century. This impressive stepwell not only functioned as a vital water reservoir but also showcases the sophisticated engineering and artistic skill of its time.

Continuing onward, the next destination is Fatehpur Sikri, often called the Ghost City. Constructed by Emperor Akbar in red sandstone, this abandoned Mughal capital retains a haunting medieval charm despite its short 12-year history.
