Kerala celebrates a harvest festival called Onam for ten days. In Kerala, it is the most esteemed and widely observed celebration. In addition to commemorating the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali, Onam is celebrated to signal the start of the harvest season. Kerala celebrates Onam with a plethora of cultural events, including boat races, sports tournaments, traditional dances, and Kathakali performances. Additionally, each household crafts a pookalam, a rice and flower petal adornment that is spread out on the ground at the threshold of houses and other structures.
